Adventues in Transdimentia

Part Three

After even Kento was full, the whole group went into the living room for introductions. Naturally, Shala, as the one who had brought other people in, was the one responsible for introducing everybody. She stood up and cleared her throat self-consciously.

"Okay," she said, pointing to each person as she said their name, "this is Ryo of Wildfire, Sage of Halo, Sai of Torrent, Kento of Hardrock, and Rowen of Strata. Or whatever. They have surnames, but who needs those? Okay, now, this is Mia Coji."

"Hello."

"And this is Yuli, who is a pesky brat."

"Hey!" Shala smiled. It was a dangerous, feral, grin.

"This is my cousin, who is going home right now, unless he wants to be grounded." She picked up her cousin and gently shoved him back through the dimensional fabric, or whatever it was. Yuli started crying. "Shut up," said Shala, "he'll be back in a few days. Now, this is White Blaze, who is a very good kitty." The tiger purred. "As is Max." The cat also purred. "This is Laila, this is Penina, this is Cole, and this is Jing."

"Is that it?" Ryo asked. Chuckles quacked.

"Oh, and Chuckles the duck," Shala added, "who I'm sending home before he causes more confusion." She picked up the duck, and shoved him through Cole's head. He didn't look as if he felt a thing.

"I still don't get it," said Kento. "It's just not possible."

"What, about Chuckles?" Ryo asked.

"No, the whole thing. How'd these people get here? I mean, Shala just plucked them out of thin air. For that matter how did Shala get herself here the first time?"

"Don't try to figure it out," Sai said kindly. "You'll hurt your head, and then where would we be?"

"One mouth and ten fewer stomachs to feed?" Sage guessed.

"That's about right," Rowen said, calculating. "Of course, when you figure in . . ."

"Shut up," said everyone. They were all shocked to hear it from Yuli, who ran out of the room, promptly followed by Mia.

"There goes the brat," Shala said. "What? He is!"

"Why don't we all meditate?" Sage suggested. "Clears the mind, and we can talk about this later."

"You guys meditate," Rowen said. "I'll read this book. It looks interesting." He read the title. "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy."

The people from Shala's dimension looked at each other and laughed.

When they began meditation, only two of the travelers relaxed immediately. Another one did so quickly. Two were too hyper. The four Ronins who came along were used to it by now and settled easily.

Shala and Jing let their senses go and relaxed, as did Sage and Sai. Kento's stomach rumbled, but he and Ryo were soon caught up in the peacefulness of the moment. Penina took a second. Laila and Cole kept giggling, and they finally went back to the house to annoy Rowen and watch TV.

So Sage, Ryo thought, what do you think of the new ones?

I like 'em. Keep us all on our toes. Now shut up, I'm trying to meditate.

So how do you like this place? Shala asked Penina and Jing.

It's just like I thought it would be, said Jing.

It's just like you keep babbling about, said Penina.

Now shut up! Both of them said.

The physical silence was shattered soon after, when Kento's stomach rumbled loudly. Ryo opened his eyes in annoyance. It turned out that Kento's stomach had chosen a good time to rumble.

Cale, Dais, Sekhmet, and Kayura were standing there. They looked bored. That was the first thing everybody noticed.

"Can we have a practice battle?" Dais asked. "We're getting rusty." Ryo's first instinct was to attack, but then he remembered the whole repentance thing and relaxed.

"Oh, really, can head?" Kento said.

"Kento," Sai said.

"Yeah, Sai?"

"Shut up."

"Okay," said Ryo. Everyone stared. "We've been getting rusty too," he pointed out.

"Does anyone want to get Rowen?" Shala asked sweetly.

"You guys can do it," Ryo replied. "And stay in the house."

"DARN!" the three girls exploded. Then they jogged back to the house. Rowen was on the couch, oblivious to Cole and Laila holding stupid putty above his head as it slowly stretched downwards . . .

"Rowen!" Jing snapped. He didn't answer. Penina grabbed the book.

"Huh? Hey! That was a good part!" Shala grabbed the book from Penina and looked at the page Rowen was on.

"He's right," she admitted, "it is a good part." She marked the page and closed the book. "Hey Rowen, guess what?"

"Huh?" he asked.

"FIGHT! Meditation spot! Now! Go!"

Rowen jumped up and ran, getting into his sub-armor as he went. Laila looked admiringly at him.

"Good color," she commented. "Pity he doesn't look like Tay."

"TAY IS A WUSS!" her friends shouted. Laila looked injured, and started extolling the many virtues of Taylor Hanson. They ignored her as usual, and, being bored, Shala grabbed Buffy the vampire slayer for fun.

"I have a few questions," she said to the blonde.

"Um, could this wait? Willow's being chased by a big oozy demon-thingy."

"Fine." Shala kicked Buffy back.

"Well that was interesting," Penina commented.

"I really wanted to see them fight," Shala sighed. "They haven't done anything besides a little practice since I came here." Jing nodded understandingly.

"Technically, you have," she pointed out. Shala brightened. She turned the TV on, pressed "power" on the VCR, and grabbed a few of her R.W. tapes from home. They all sat back to watch for awhile.

Mia and Yuli came to join them when they heard the cheering as Ryo slapped Yuli. They all wanted Yuli dead. For some reason.
