Therapy With A Zing
session two
by Shala-chan
We lurk around the hallways of the building, waiting for our
precious Zechs-sama to emerge from his therapy session. He
finally does so, and we worship him the instant he leaves the
therapist's room. He seems annoyed and hurries away.
Minutes later, we hear jaunty whistling from down the corridor. We all peer around the corner, and who should we see but Duo-san strolling down the hallway! Someone with an attention span longer than five minutes and a memory that lasts longer than ten remembers that Duo-san's session is next. We lie in wait in order to hear what goes on.
Duo-san sees us trying to huddle unnoticed and grins, then pretends that he hasn't seen us at all. What a bishie!
Heero, for example, would probably have just shot the lot of us.
But back to Duo-san.
He raps lightly on the door, and enters his therapy session with obvious trepidation.
"Duo Maxwell, reporting for duty," we hear.
"This isn't exactly a duty, Mr.Maxwell. Please, sit down."
We hear a slight thud.
"You know, this is a pretty comfy floor you've got here."
"Yes, Mr.Maxwell. Now, I'd like to discuss why you're here."
"Damned if I know. Hang on a second, I think I'd like to take a chair."
"Go ahead, Mr. Maxwell. Well, your records indicate a referral from your supervising officer for trauma counseling."
"Yeah, well . . . I don't really need it, you know? I'm perfectly normal for a Gundam pilot."
"Normality, I have observed, is not a concept that applies to Gundam pilots. Or teenagers, for that matter." Duo mutters something that we can't quite catch. Apparently, the therapist can't either. "Pardon?"
"Never mind. I just said that I was going to kill Heero for helping Miss Noin to get me to come here."
"Is this a routine threat between the two of you?"
"You might say that . . ."
"Well, Mr.Maxwell, you are here for trauma counseling. Perhaps we should start from the beginning. What is your earliest memory?"
"Life on the streets."
"When, to your recollection, did you first experience death?"
"Probably when I was younger, but all I can remember is when Solo died . . ." Duo's voice is devoid of emotion.
"How long ago was this?"
"Um . . . let's see . . . before the church, way before Professor G, I musta been about . . . anou . . . it was awhile ago."
"I see."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Nothing. Now . . . you mentioned a church?"
"Yeah. Listen, do we have to talk about that right now?"
"If you don't fell comfortable about it, certainly we don't. Next time, perhaps."
"I guess."
"Now, I have been given to understand that you are in a relationship right now?"
"Well, I am, but I'm never too sure if Heero's admitted that to himself yet. He's not a very openly affectionate person."
". . ."
"That's a response worthy of Trowa. No, Heero just isn't very emotional. Especially not in public."
"In private, do you have a good relationship with each other?"
"Good sex . . ." Duo comments, apparently considering the question. "But I don't really get what a 'good relationship' is."
"A healthy, thriving relationship."
"Still no idea. With Heero, I'm not sure that anything is ever really healthy . . . With me too, I guess."
"Have you ever had any sort of relationship test to see where you stand as a pair?"
"Not unless Cosmo magazine counts."
"It doesn't."
"We work together really well . . . I can pretty much count on him not to kill me . . . he can do the same for me . . . I love him . . . the sex is awesome . . . Sound normal?"
"Not entirely. But I think we'll let it go for now. However -"
"Yeah?"
"Do you think you could bring your boyfriend with you to your next session? Discussing your problems together may help to solve them."
"Er, I . . . I guess. If he can get some time off work. Heero's a very busy guy."
"Say next week, same time?"
"Fine. I'll try to drag Hee-chan along. He might not come though, just t' let ya know."
"Here, give this to your commanding officer -" there is a faint scratching of pen against paper and the unmistakable sound of a piece of paper being torn from a pad "- and they'll make sure that you both come together. We'll try to talk about that church next time too, hey?"
"Maybe. Can I go now?"
"Feel free."
A chair scrapes back and the door opens. Duo stalks out, clutching a piece of paper with a distracted expression on his face. He ignores us completely.
A minute after he is gone, the therapist's voice sounds again.
"Okay, let's see . . ." a click is heard. "Testing, testing." Thee more clicks, and the voice plays back again. "Alright. Subject: Duo Maxwell. Analysis: unhealthy amount of dwelling on the past, current relationship needs work. Will talk with both halves next session." There is a pause. "Why do I get the feeling that Sally is referring all the hard cases to me?"
~Session Two Owari~
I don't really like most of the end of this one, with the exception of that last comment . . . Er, Gundam Wing belongs to Sotsu Agency, Sunrise, and a whole shitload of other people. Not me. You guys know that anyway. Or you should . . . Well, this session just about ensures that I have to do at least one more session. Probably more, with my silly little mind. Do you guys like this one? I got stuck on the ending for about a month, so . . . Anyway, I musteth go get my pyjama'd ass dressed so I can go hang with my friend. *panics* I haven't done any work today, and I have a shitload of it . . .
